Mood Music --the inspired two-fer

Last night, two songs disappointed me greatly. The first was this cheesefest, which apparently only the incomparable Steve Perry can do true justice to:

Second was this song, which as I wrote about last year was part of a particularly memorable experience I had in college. As I sat in the same desk I always sat in, I saw that someone had written one of the first lines of this song. I wrote the next. When I returned 3 days later, a dozen lines had been added, all in different handwriting. Within a month, we had written the entire song, covering the entire desk, by at least 20 different people. I've always had a soft spot for this song because of those iconic lyrics...so when a young emo singer mumbled his way through the half of the lyrics that he could remember, I was greatly disappointed. In 30 years, this song will be one of the ones that my generation holds up as a universal example of our musical experience.

God, I hope not. I think having a young emo singer mumble through these lyrics is perfectly in keeping with the source material.
