Stayed for now

Sensing the imminent stay from the US Supreme Court for any lethal injection cases while its constitutionality is being questioned, the Georgia Supreme Court has stayed the execution of Jack Alderman previously scheduled for today. The Court cited both the granting of certiorari in the Kentucky case and the issuance of a stay earlier this week of an execution scheduled in Virginia.

What I think this may mean is that no lethal injections will be occurring anywhere until the Big Dogs sort this issue out. Even if the case is heard in the next month or so, a ruling is unlikely before January so chances are there will be no more lethal injection executions in the year 2007.
