NASCooties

OK, this is f*cking funny. A longtime Democratic Congressman from Mississippi who was sending staff to a NASCAR event for a review of evacuation and catastrophe plans at large crowded venues advised the staff to be innoculated against a host of communicable diseases before entering Talladega. When the instruction was publicized, instead of smartly turning it into a joking dig at Alabama (a time-honored tradition in the South), Congressman Bennie Thompson actually tried to defend his advice as just an attempt to protect his staffers in an environment where they would be exposed to a lot of people of questionable medical condition.

What a maroon. I've been to a Nascar event, and I'm a hypochondriac, and I still didn't feel the need to get any immunization updates ahead of time.

Something tells me Thompson's seat just got more competitive.

Well they *were* there to conduct studies on public health preparedness and were presumably going to be poking around medical facilities. I'm more concerned by GOP Rep. Robin Hayes who suggests that watching cars drive around in circles is "the greatest sport on Earth today." Amazing that the subtleties of Congressional procedure would be lost on such a crowd!
