GA Supreme Court to hear death penalty appeal

Remember the case of Troy Anthony Davis, who is sentenced to die for a murder he claims he did not commit? The one who obtained the extraordinary relief of a temporary stay from the state Pardons & Paroles Board last month after 7 of the 9 witnesses who testified against him subsequently recanted and claimed prosecutorial and police misconduct?

Well, on Friday the GA Supreme Court voted 4-3 to take Davis' appeal of his denial of a new trial by a Chatham County judge. The case will be scheduled to be heard sometime this fall. And barring work obligations, I'm going to try to attend and liveblog that one too.

In the meantime, because of the pending appeal the P&P Board rescinded their stay. The execution will not be scheduled until the Court rules on the case.
