Quote of the Day, recycled edition
From Andrew Sullivan today: "I don't believe my role is to replace the verdict of a jury with my own," - George W. Bush on why he signed death warrants for 152 inmates as governor of Texas.
Apparently that rule only applies when we're talking about saving someone's LIFE, but goes out the window when it's a political operative who broke the law in furtherance of administration propaganda efforts. Bush only granted a commutation or a reprieve twice during his 6 years as Texas' governor.

of course he would argue that he is not setting aside the jury's verdict merely the judge's sentence and merely a part of the sentence at that.
but yeah, obviously in the real world you are correct.
the above made more sense when certain words were italicized. i cannot figure out the html tags so just italicize what you think should be italicized and should my argument still be unpersuasive, italicize some other parts and try again.
Snarl.
