Random Ramblings

Today is a little nuts and I haven't had much time to find things to blog about, so I'm just going to ramble for a little while.

* It figures that I do a favor for a coworker while she's away at trial and handle a bunch of her cases for her, and I apparently did it so well that they have now become my cases. Sorta makes me wish I'd screwed them up some...

* Is it wrong that I am dreaming of fishing this weekend with my dad? I don't even like to bait the hook, or touch the fish, and I get bored pretty easily, and yet the only thing helping me make it through this week is the knowledge that I will spend Saturday and/or Sunday sitting on a boat on a lake, probably sweating my butt off, trying to catch a fish that in all likelihood I will just throw back. Perhaps it's the knowledge that after this trip I'll never fish these lakes again...

* It is a strange thing, shyness. I hate talking on the phone. I mean, I absolutely detest it. And so there's this guy who keeps wanting to call me so we can have long meaningful chats on the phone, and he's even asked me out on like a real live date. And he seems like a viable date possibility, but the thought of talking to him on the phone makes me want to run screaming in the other direction. The thought of sitting at a restaurant or bar with him trying to make uncomfortable small talk holds even less appeal. I think I might have a little bit of Social Anxiety Disorder, actually. Why else would I be all flummoxed and anxious just because a cute boy wants to call me on the phone and take me on a date? Why would I be avoiding it and putting off the phone call as often as possible? I am so screwed up sometimes.

* So thin lips are for Republican bitches, eh? I can't argue, I have nice big fat lips and I'm a liberal. Sandra Bernhardt's still annoying and vaguely scary, though.

* Is anyone really surprised that more people can name the Seven Dwarfs than the 9 Supreme Court justices? Can you name all of both lists without Googling? (I can, but then I'm a lawyer AND I worked for a summer at Disney.) The American people are frighteningly stupid about their government and most probably couldn't name their own U.S. Senator or Representative. I don't think anyone should be surprised that they can't name all or even most of the Supreme Court, even as it's repeatedly turned into a polarizing issue in every election. I also wonder if most people throwing around the charge of "judicial activism" realize that all but 2 members of the current Court were named by Republican presidents.

* My friend Heather and her husband Charlie welcomed a healthy happy baby girl into the world on Friday, and I want to congratulate them. I have rarely seen a couple that I thought were more suited to be fabulous parents than those two, and I am so excited on their behalf.

* So Tom Petty is playing Atlanta in late September. I thought he was bypassing us, but apparently ATL just wasn't on the tour schedule yet when I checked a few months ago. Tickets are $40 apiece...do I want to go? I'm trying to decide. I really, really like Tom Petty but it's on a Friday night and going down to the concert site (Hifi Buys, formerly Lakewood) is really a pain in the ass and last time I was there I thought I was going to die it was so hot. Decisions, decisions...

The Tom Petty concert got RAVE, RAVE reviews here in Houston. It totally made me wish I had bought tickets! There was a surprise appearance by Stevie Nicks, and some other guest musicians. You can look up the review (I think) at www.chron.com.
