Keep on Fluffin'

Remember this post about how Massachusetts' legislature was in full battle over Marshmallow Fluff? Well, to update on recent events, the proponent of the original bill seeking to reduce public school lunch servings of Fluff to no more than once a week has abandoned the bill after the Fluffstorm spiralled out of control.

As much as it became a silly spectacle and a waste of time, I don't oppose the general concept of taking a careful look at what children are being served in their school lunches. Childhood obesity is a big problem, and there is no reason why our schools need to contribute to it. Having said that, every child is always free to bring their lunch from home and there is nothing stopping parents from feeding their kids Fluffernutters every single day if they so desire. A serious approach to childhood obesity and nutrition would require attention to much more than just public school lunches.

At least now the Massachusetts legislators who felt the need to defend Fluff from attack can focus on more important matters, like how best to thwart Mitt Romney's every move. *snicker*
