Ma, they're makin fun of us yokels again!

I love Wonkette, and today's ATL mockage is no exception.

Over the weekend, activists in Atlanta took their message To The Streets™, using the awesome power of tens of candles to send a clear message to America that something something oh, yeah, maybe impeach the President, something, something.
...
Doesn’t that look AMAZING! Well, maybe it would if you lived in a town whose main attraction was a museum to Coca-Cola.

They're just mad because our panda cub is cuter n' stuff. But the comments are pretty funny, particularly the one about Jeff Gordon. Yes, *that* Jeff Gordon.

Our main attraction is the Coke museum? Really? Welcome to 15 years ago. Geeeez.

Y'know, the only things Atlanta is known for to those who have never been here is probably Coke, Nascar, and peaches. And of course the traffic. Outside shot someone will mention Gone with the Wind. What else would we be famous for?

Sad, but the reactions in the comments at Wonkette and also from the many friends and family I have who have never been here tells me this is what people think of when they think of Atlanta.

Sara - Yes, they think of all that plus the fixed-earth theory, the stickers on science textbooks....

Who's fault is that? This is exactly what I was talking about when I wrote about anti-South bias a few weeks ago. Unacceptable, especially from people who claim to be progressive. It's amazing how quickly the mask comes off.

Eh, I thought it was funny. Watching non-southerners make fun of the south from a place of nearly total ignorance can be really funny.

Actually my favorite part of the Wonkette article was just the "tens of candles." Hee.

I guess it's funny when it doesn't hit close to home, because they're not really making fun of you.

I don't know, Griftdrift sure does love Squidbillies and I'm pretty sure that show's making of southerners a lot like him. (Or at least squids a lot like him.)

I think I'm just so used to the bias at this point after hearing it from everyone I left behind in Boston that it doesn't really phase me anymore. Let them make fun...they don't know what they're missing out on down here. And we don't need any more elitist Northerners anyhow.

...Furthermore, it doesn't necessarily matter whether anyone else finds it offensive, I do. And I intend to keep calling people on their bullshit if they keep on writing/saying it.
